The President opened the Extraordinary General Assembly.

Statutory matters

Proposed amendment to Constitution

The President mentioned that a motion had been put forward by the Hungarian Youth Hostel Association extend the term for Observer status but that they had now withdrawn it. He also took this opportunity to congratulate Peter Losonczy as new President of the Hungarian Youth Hostel Association.

The Treasurer informed the Assembly that the Executive Committee recognized the necessity to offer to new candidate Association the possibility to have a three years Observer status with the same fees as Affiliated Members. The proposed amendment was:

The new full Members have the possibility to have an intermediate three years observer status with the same situation as affiliate members.”

Discussions took place on clarification of the terms full Members “in the EU” and on mentioning “may choose” instead of “have the possibility”. As a result the modifications were implemented as follows:

"Associations in new EU member states may choose an intermediate three years Observer status with the same status as Affiliate Members."

The proposed amendment to the Constitution was accepted with two abstentions (YHA E&W and SYHA).

As no other matters were arising, the President closed the Extraordinary General Assembly.
