In Slovenia, many students have to work to support themselves financially during their studies and of course to allow them the freedom to travel and explore the world.
The new legislation, already passed in the Slovene parliament, was extremely unfriendly towards young students and those who are searching for first employment.
HI Slovenia, together with the Student Union and Trade Union amongst others, collected 40,000 officially verified signatures and demanded a referendum.
As a result, a referendum was held on Sunday, 10th of April 2011 and more than a third of all Slovenians with voting rights attended. The results were amazing, with more than 80% of the Slovene voters voting against the “Mini Jobs Act” law, that has already been passed in parliament.
This matter may not be resolved yet, but HI Slovenia is proud to have been a part of such a significant battle for young people and youth mobility.
