EUFED e-learning environmental module

The EUFED e-learning partnership is an established European partnership which has successfully developed a series of training modules for Youth Hostel managers, staff and volunteers, with the support of the European Union Leonardo da Vinci Programme for vocation training and the International Youth Hostel Federation. These modules have been designed to improve the knowledge, skills and competencies of staff (especially young people), in a sector that does not typically provide on-going vocational training. The modules cover a wide range of subject areas, including induction for newly appointed managers, staff and volunteers ("WELCOME: Introduction to Work in a Youth Hostel", which was launched in May 2004), customer care, quality management and animation techniques/programming of visitor activities.

With e-learning, trainees can learn at a time and a pace to suit themselves within their own Youth Hostel and work environment, via access to a Personal Computer. E-learning is also considered to be a more cost-effective and efficient way of delivering training to common standards, and can be designed to monitor the progress and quality to the transferred knowledge, skills and competencies. E-learning also enables vocational training to reach staff who, for reasons of cost and/or access difficulties, may not be able to participate in classroom-based training.
